Congratulations to Lee

A big congratulations to Lee who has recently married long tome partner Shelley.

Well done Pete

Pete Fielding-Smith claimed a great  9th place in the recent Criterium around the cobbled streets of historic York. Well done Pedro!

Ollerenshaw moves up to 2nd Cat.

Mark Ollerenshaw has achieved his seasons goal by moving up a category from 3rd to 2nd. Mark collected 41 British Cycling points so far this season which is enough to see him race at a higher level next year.

Mark also has been awarded 4th for the Beverley Criterium. The race was abandoned due to a serious crash involving fellow Richardsons rider Rob Busby but the organisers decided to award placings based on a prime lap earlier in the race.

Busby on the mend

Rob Busby was fortunate to get away with just a broken collarbone and cuts and bruises after a horrendous crash in the Beverley Criterium. Rob lost consciousness briefly and had to be removed from the circuit in an ambulance. Fortunately, Rob is now on the mend and aiming at getting a couple of races in before the end of the season.

Regional Rankings Update

Richardsons RT/Cube currently hold 16th spot out of 58 teams in the Yorkshire rankings. To date the team have collected 44 British Cycling ranking points.

Madden signs for Richardsons RT/Cube

Schoolboy Ben Madden has become the latest addition to Richardsons RT line-up. Although a novice in terms of racing Ben has shown bags of potential in local sportives and has already posted a good time in a local time trial. Ben is seen as a real prospect and it's predicted that he is destined for greater things.

Good luck Ben.

Ollerenshaw nets first road race win of season

Sheffrec Spring RR – 17/04/11 (Report taken from British Cycling website)

60 riders departed the Ruddle Centre in Braithwell in bright sunshine to compete over 15 laps of the Stainton circuit. A fast start due to light winds saw many riders try to attempt to go clear but were successfully pulled back by the main bunch. Early attempts from Mike Hutton from the promoting club, Sheffrec CC came with no reward. Further attempts by junior rider Jordon Skinner of Dinnington RC and vet rider Andy Whitehead were also reeled in by a keen peloton.

The last 2 laps saw Mark Ollerenshaw of Richardsons RT Cube and Ben Thomas successfully break clear and this duo stayed away with Mark Ollernshaw riding away from Ben Thomas on the final run in to the finish. Jordon Skinner claimed 3rd with a great sprint followed by locals riders, Phil Giles of RVO Racing and Ashley Proctor from Sheffrec CC holding off Charles Tennick of Planet X to round off the top 6.

Pete FS won the latest round of the City RC time trial series. He powered around the course in a terrific time of 21.53.To top off a cracking evening Rob Busby secured a brilliant 2nd place just 4 seconds down on Pete. Craig Medcalf also showed he is returning to form after injury recording a time of 23.05. Well done lads.

Great weekend for Richardsons!

Picture
March 26-27th proved to be a very good one for the team. Firstly, Rob, Lee and Mark headed down to Darley Moor. For Lee, merely getting on the bike and turning the pedals was a result after a traumatic week off the bike. As for the racing - both Rob and Mark spent considerable amounts of time off the front showing a really aggressive attitude. Rob was clear with a couple of riders for a couple of laps and Mark made a big effort on a number of occasions to get away. All three riders left without points but with a sense of satisfaction and lots of optimism.

THE BIG RESULT CAME THE NEXT DAY. Paul and Pete competed in the annual Seacroft Wheelers RR. Paul rode a classic race and broke away from the bunch a few laps from the finish with 2 riders. He managed to stay away and take a fabulous 2nd position. Paul is the teams most experienced rider and he used all his 'nouce' to get away and stay awayPete, who played the perfect team player by marking the peloton only just missed out on a top 10. The two lads have really done the team proud with this result and made a big statement about the aspirations of the team for 2011. Some of those who had questioned the ability of Richardsons RT/Cube will now be eating their words.

Overall - the team has made a good start and more top results are just around the corner.

Unfortunately, Lee has suffered a crash whilst out training with the team. He tumbled whilst 2mph and ended up in a crunched-up bone heap on the side of the road. Luckily, the only damage was to Lee's pride.
Sorry Lee :-)

  • New Kit for 2011

    Picture
The new kit for the 2011 season has been unveiled. It's a classic design with a retro look. It's striking design that both the riders and sponsors are delighted with.

Team owner, Dave Busby said 'we wanted a kit that that looked professional and that would stand out from the crowd. I believe that Richardsons - Cube RT will be the best dressed team in the bunch'.

    Congratulations and Commiserations

The past week has brought both good and bad news.
Firstly, CONGRATULATIONS to both Paul and his wife on the news that they are awaiting the patter of tiny cycling shoes. Paul now has the tricky task of learning how to change nappies as quickly as he can change an innertube!!
Secondly, COMMISERATIONS to Rob B who managed to fracture his wrist after a fall at Manchester Track. Rob will now be out for 6 weeks. Don't worry Rob, you can still use your other hand ;)

    Big welcome to Sarah Kennedy

    Picture
Richardsons-Cube supremo Dave Busby is delighted to announce the signing of it's first female rider Sarah Kennedy. This once again shows Richardsons - Cube RTs steady expansion. When the idea of Richardsons Cycles backing a racing team was first conceived Dave wanted a mix of young riders, riders with experience and female riders. The recruitment of Sarah is a realisation of Dave's dream that Richardsons - Cube RT would be a team that was fully inclusive.

    On signing Sarah said

"I haven't ridden for a team before. I started cycling three years ago as part of duathlon training. I was constantly injured due to running, and took the decision to concentrate soley on cycling at the start of 2009, when I saw a big improvement in my performance. I managed to win the women's Cottingham criterium race 2009, which is when Dave approached me and asked if I would join the team. I was shocked, yet excited by the offer, and now feel very driven to perform well in 2011.  My key aims for next season are to take part in the Womens team series races and take a fast track to improving my skills within a bunch. I also intend to take part in a number of criteriums."

Everyone wishes Sarah the best for 2011.

The line-up for the 2011 season will be

    Rob Busby
    Paul Noton
    Pete Fielding-Smith
    Lee Watson
    Craig Medcalf
    Sarah Kennedy
    Mark Ollerenshaw

    Well done Pete

    Picture
Congratulations to Richardsons - Cube RT rider for being the top points scorer for the 2010 season. Pete collected 23 British cycling points just pipping stalwart Paul Noton who collected 19.

    Latest News

    Happy New Year.
The new year is upon us and Richardsons/Cube RT are already preparing for the 2010 season which will kick off in March. The race calender has been updated. Keep your eye on it as new dates will continue to be added.
The snow and recent rain has meant winter training has been largely done on turbo trainers and rollers which the boys are getting a little tired of. Pete has been participating in a number of cyclocross races with numerous top 10 placings. Well done Pete.
The riders will be taking delivery of their new Cube Lightening frames in the next few weeks meaning they will be the best supplied team in the area - much thanks must go to Dave Busby, team manager and team sponsors Cube.

BREAKING NEWS - A warm welcome to Peter Fielding-Smith

2010 team line-up has been announced by team owner Dave Busby.
The team will be the same as 2009 but with the addition of Peter Fielding-Smith. Smith, who has joined from Hull Thursday was being chased by at least one other team. However, he was absolutely delighted to be offered a place on Richardsons/Cube RT. The signature of Pete is a real statement of intent. Boss Dave Busby is naturally delighted to have Pete on the squad for next season stating 'Peter will add strength to our line-up and will compliment the other riders in the team perfectly - 2010 is a big season for us and Peter will help us achieve our goals'.

Pete has already started training with his new teammates and is looking forward to preparing for next season over the coming winter months. Pete, along with the rest of the team are likely to make their 2010 debut at the City Road Club 3-Up 25 mile TT in March 2010.

05 October - Fresh from looking after has sick missus Mark lined up for the gruelling 92km Lincoln Road Race. After finishing 11th the previous year hopes were high. The pace was high from the off with a number of attacks being attempted. Local rider Karl Downes ecaped on lap 2. Mark
broke clear on lap 3 in an attempt to join up with Karl. He attacked into the headwind and stayed away for 2-3 miles before being chased down by a City Road Club rider (cheers Jase). He then broke briefly away at the same point on the 4 lap but only managed a mile before being reeled in. With his legs cramping he knew that he wouldn't be able to sprint so attacked into the headwind on the final lap. He was joined by another rider and they managed around 4 miles before the bunch once again pulled him back. Needless to say Mark was utterly destroyed in the sprint as his thighs, calfs, teeth and eyelids all cramped. Lots of hard work and a few pats on the back from other riders was all he could take away.

02 October - Rob Busby got his winter track season under way in fine style with 2 wins. He raced around the Manchester Velodrome clinching victories in the Devil and the scratch race. Well done Rob

27th September - Congratulations to Lee Watson on finishing 13th in the recent VC Chesterfield 10 mile TT. Lee finshed with a time of 23.03. Well done Lee.

20th September - Lee and Mark both lined-up for the Doncaster Wheelers Autumn Road race. Both riders were very active throughout. Lee was positioned perfectly but just missed the decisive move. Mark came close to getting the win getting in a 3-man break on the last lap. However, defeat was snatched from the jaws of victory as his legs blew on the final climb and was caught with metres to spare. He was absolutely gutted!!

5th September - Mark Ollerenshaw has finished 3rd overall in the season-long Hull Thursday/Star Bikes Time Trial series.

25th August - Well done to Rob Busby for placing 2nd at the recent City Road Club 10. Rob was narrowly beaten by local TT ace Karl Downes. Well done to Rob

22nd August- On his first ever attempt at Track racing Mark Ollerenshaw managed to win the Senior B 8 lap scratch race at Quibell Park, Scunthorpe. Well done.

18th August - Well done to Craig and Rob for placing in the top 10 at the Hull Thursday Hill Climb event. Craig finished 10th and Rob finished 5th.

5th August - Racing Update. Where do we start?? - Check out the gallery for pics of the recent action

    BUSBY BEATS BREARLEY!
Richardson's rider Rob Busby picked up the best team result so far by retaining his Yorkshire schoolboy 10 mile time trial crown. It's never easy to defend a title as the pressure is always on. However, Rob beat his main rival Dave Brearley by a number of seconds. The key to Rob's victory was the hill. He was slightly down on Brearley but showed his prowess on the climb to overtake the Cottingham Couriers rider and storm to victory.

    NOTON NEARLY DOES IT (again)
Another rider aiming to defend his crown was Paul Noton. As winner of the Beverley Criterium last year Paul was amongst the favourites to win again. Paul along with Rob Busby, Lee Watson and Mark Ollerenshaw faced the tough, fast circuit around the historic market town of Beverley. The Key features of the circuit are the tight corners and the COBBLES!!!! The race started in dry conditions with Paul getting away with a small group of riders. 3 laps in the heavens opened. The circuit immediately turned into an ice rink and the inevitable crashes began. The biggest brought down Rob and Mark. Rob was forced to retire due to broken handlebars. Mark untangled himself from wheels and bikes and carried on. Unfortunately, Mark didnt realise he could have taken a lap out and rejoin the race. As a result, he battled on alone and finished in 15/16th place. Lee stayed upright and rode well in a small group and finished just out of the top 10. However, the main race was up front as Paul did the majority of the work to keep the break away. As Paul moved into the finishing straight his brain started the sprint - however- his legs told his brain where to go!! He still finished a brilliant 3rd. All in all Richardsons rode really strongly on a night when when a large number of riders decided to pull out.

A massive mention has to go to Craig Medcalf. Paul arrived without his shoes so Craig played the role of loyal domestique and lent his to Paul. This selfless act allowed Paul to race and deliver an excellent result for the team. Chapeau Craig!!!!

    TWO WINS FOR OLLERENSHAW

Mark Ollerenshaw has delivered 2 time trial victories in 2 weeks. Firstly, he won the John Bull Cup covering a hilly 13.5 mile course in 32.20 - over a minute faster than 2nd place. The following week he won the Hull Thursday Presidents Cup over a pan flat 8.5 mile circuit. His winning time of 18.02 was apparently the 3rd quickest ever time for the circuit.

    1st June - Racing Update.
Richardsons/Cube riders have again been busy recently picking up some excellent results. Firstly, congratulations to Craig who took 2nd place in the East Riding Road Race League event at Walkington. Craig rode strongly in the front group and was completely outnumbered by VC Beverley riders. If the sprint had been 50 metres more Graig would have carried the day. An excellent result.

Mark picked up the teams first British Cycling ranking points by taking 8th at Mallory Park Criterium down in Leicestershire. The race was fast and furious with over 70 riders hurtling round the motorcycle race circuit. Mark attempted to break away on the last lap but was pegged back but he still had enough in the tank for the sprint finish.

Rob grabbed a super 8th place in the last round of the East Riding Road Race League on the tough and unforgiving Newbald course. On a tough night Rob attacked on the final climb only to be clawed back by Cottingham Couriers. Rob was disappointed not to have got 3rd but a top 10 finish on this circuit is a fantastic effort. Craig and Lee both finished safely in the bunch.

Rob and Craig  delivered excellent results in the recent Hull and East Riding 10 mile TT. Rob got his 2nd win of the season only a couple of seconds off his PB with Craig taking 3rd with a PB.

Mark took a good 3rd place in Hull Thursdays Presidents Trophy TT. He was only 4 seconds off 2nd. The win was taken by Raleigh Avanti rider Steve Guymer in a new course record. Apparently, Mark was only 17 seconds off the previous course record.

Time Trial Success - Richardsons/Cube riders have delivered the 2nd and 3rd wins of the season in the past week. Congratulations to Rob Busby for winning the Hull and East Riding 10!! The good news continues as Lee Watson was 2nd and Craig Medcalf was 4th. A very successful evening. Later that week Craig picked up a excellent win in a 5 mile tt which was closely followed by a 3rd place for Rob Busby in a 25mile event. Well done lads!!!

Mark Ollerenshaw followed his recent TT win with a creditable 6th Place in the Wilson Shield event promoted by Hull Thursday. The event was won by Karl Downes in a course record time.

19 May - Racing Update. The team has been very active over the past couple of weeks in various events. Here is a summary of how they got on.

Steve Rigby Memorial RR. Strong field as ever, big representation from usual teams like Chevin. It was a chilly day with a slight breeze and full field out for the kippax circuit ( 12 3/4 laps 90km). Riding for Richardsons RT were Lee, Craig and Paul. The main menace of the day was Richard Moore (Star Bikes) who attacked about five or six times to eventually finish third in a bunch gallop. Craig did well this race, and completed 5laps. Paul lasted nine and cracked (and admits even by his standards has never succeeded the circuit yet!) Lee despite cramping up in both thighs on completing the tength lap had to ride in the last lap and half on his own to finish about 1 1/2 to 2mins down on the main field. A solid performance.

East Riding Road Race League Event 2 - Little Weighton - 4 Richardsons riders arrived at the start line for the second event of the East Riding Road race league - Lee, Mark, Rob and Craig. The team was prominant throughout the race getting involved with lots of work and pace setting. The race ended in a bunch sprint with Mark taking 9th place and the rest of the team finishing with or just behind the main bunch.

Hull Thursday RR - This event is one of the toughest events of the season with the race heading up Newbald Hill on no less than 6 occasions. This was the first time this season that a full team was assembled. The aim was to get either a win for Paul or Rob. Mark, Lee and Craig were given the task of delivering one of these 2 riders to the front at the bottom of the last climb up to the finish. The race was run off under a strong wind and a full field was present at the start. The race was really hard and fast. Paul went on the attack early as did Mark on lap 3. Rob, looked after by Craig and Lee sat in the safety of the bunch. Attacks on lap 4 and 5 by Star Bikes riders were policed by Mark. However, all plans went out the window on the final lap when Rob crashed. Mark, carried on at the front believing Rob was on his wheel and arrived at the bottom of the final climb with a small group of about 5-6 riders. When he realised Rob wasn't there he rode for himself and finished well in the top twenty. Paul followed soon after after riding really strongly throughout. Lee, on the come back trail rode superbly to finish only a couple of minutes down and Craig rode in with a gutted Rob about 5 mins down. Had Rob not have been brought down and followed Mark's wheel he would have been one of the favourites to win with his ability to climb.

Bartley Cup 12 mile TT. FIRST WIN. Mark picked up his first win of the season in the Bartley Cup 12 mile TT on a hilly Little Weighton course. He completed the 12 miles in a time of 32.05 under rain-filled skies and a stiff crosswind. It was Mark's first race on his new Cube Aerium TT bike and it certainly did the trick.

30th April - East Riding Road Race League Event 1 - Little Weighton. The first Road Race League event of the season was again a mixed set of fortunes for Richardsons Riders. Unfortunately, due to a clerical issue Rob failed to make the start. Lee and Mark went off in group 3 and Craig in group 2. Craig rode pretty well in sections but was disappointed in his overall performance. Lee, still on the comeback trail rode a measured race and did some vital shifts at the front. Mark did a lot of work at the front of group 3 when many riders from other teams seemed content to sit in. He also was very active at the front of the group when joined by the Elites and at one stage was leading the pursuit. His efforts took their toll and Mark rode with Lee to finish a couple of minutes down.

26th April - Wetwang Spring Road Race. For the first time in a number of weeks Richardsons/Cube RT fielded a strong team in one of the toughest races on the calender. Paul, Lee, Rob and Mark faced the daunting task of climbing Life Hill 6 times. The race turned out to be a mixed bag of experiences. All four climbed well on the first lap but the 2nd lap saw 2 of the team slip off the back. Lee understandebly struggled as this was his first race since returning from a damaged shoulder. Mark had gearing problems which caused him to lose the wheel let the gap go. To their credit, both riders chased with 2 others and caught the bunch at the bottom of the 3rd time up the hill. However, the efforts of regaining touch had taken their toll. Lee decided to sit up and Mark carried on alone to the finish.

Rob and Paul faired better both mixing it until lap 4 were Paul, short of racing in his legs was dropped leaving Rob as the only challenger. He was very active in the finale only to miss out the final break. Rob, the teams best climber was disappointed not to get the win but has vowed to return next year and take the win. For the record, Rob finished 17th, Mark 34th and Paul 36th

20th April - RACING RESULTS.Firstly, congratulations to Paul Noton who finished an excellent 19th in the City Road Club 10 mile TT on Good Friday. Paul powered his way around the course in a time of 20mins and 50 seconds.

Mark Ollerenshaw has had a busy couple of weeks competing in Bridlington RR and Pete Gannon Memorial RR. Mark worked hard in a hilly Bridlington race and helped bring back the races only breakaway. He then finished with the bunch after a leg-sapping finale up the main climb.

Mark described the Pete Gannon race as 'the hardest race he had done to date'. 11 times up the climb and lack of energy gels finally took its toll on Mark who blew on the second to last gap.

7th April - Mark Ollerenshaw finished a pleasing 6th in the annual Hull Thursday Prologue TT. He averaged over 30mph over the 5 mile course. Most pleasing of all was that Mark rode his standard road bike as opposed the the aero TT bikes that the other riders were piloting.

5th April - More bad news for the team. Unfortunately, Lee has suffered a bad crash whilst competing at a track event at the Manchester Velodrome. Lee was brought down and suffered a dislocated shoulder and cuts and bruises. At this stage, Lee believes he will be out of action for around a month. Best wishes to Lee.

29th March - Lee and Mark rode the Seacroft Wheelers Road Race today under clear blue skies. In past years the race has been buffeted by strong crosswinds but this year the wind was nowhere to be seen and the conditions were very still. The lack of wind, the short distance (39 miles) and no climbs meant that the breakaways were difficult to form. Everything stayed together for the full race despite the best efforts of the Richardsons riders. Lee attempted to get clear a couple of times whilst Mark sat at the front of the race waiting for his opportunity which didn't come. The race culminated in a mass sprint. Mark got boxed in and had to battle to the front only to find himself hit the front to early. Lee had a dig but the efforts earlier took their toll.

The boys found it hard to make a significant impact against teams with 4,5 an 6 riders. Chevin Cycles fielded an impressive 6 riders.

27th March - Lee and Mark ride the Seacroft Wheelers Annual Road Race on Sunday 29th March. This race has now become the traditional Yorkshire road race season curtain raiser. The course is pan-flat with just one climb. If previous years are anything to go by the winds will be up making it a tough race. The start sheet is extremely strong this year with some strong squads out to get there season underway.

22nd March - Richardsons/Cube RT riders were out in force this weekend. On Saturday Craig Medcalf, Rob Busby, Paul Noton and Mark Ollerenshaw lined up with 130+ riders at Darley Moor. The team were very active with Paul winning the prime sprint, Rob bringing back what he thought was a breakaway but turned out to be lapped riders. Craig road strongly throughout and Mark came within a couple of hundred metres of winning after going for a solo break at the end of the penultimate lap. The strong headwind towards the end put paid to his efforts. An picture in the Gallery shows the exact moment when Mark went on the attack!

On Sunday Lee, Rob and Craig rode the Team Swift 10 TT. All posted strong times with Lee coming out as top boy with a time of 22m 27secs. Rob did a 22m 58secs and Craig rode a PB of 24m 05secs. Well done lads.

20th March -The brand new Richardsons/Cube RT clothing has now arrived and the squad will be seen in it for the first time this coming Saturday at Darley Moor. Craig, Rob and Lee will also be competing in the A63 10 mile TT.

17th March -  Unfortunately Mark Ollerenshaw was knocked his bike whilst out training on Monday evening. He was very lucky and escaped with just bruising and soreness. He hopes to be fit enough to compete at Darley Moor at the weekend along with Rob and Craig.

16th March - Ilness hampered the efforts of Paul and Mark in the George Ely 2up. Hopes of a top 10 placing disappeared as Mark felt the effects of a cold he had during the week and as a result was well off the pace. Paul played and outstanding team role as he got Mark round in one piece. The pair estimated they could have gone 2-3 mins quicker if form had been there. Craig and Rob worked hard in the wind and produced a creditable time. Craig, as indeed Mark were riding borrowed bikes which made things a little tricky. Still, these performances showed that although Richardsons/Cube RT are a brand new squad the team spirit is superb. This will be crucial in the long season ahead.

9th March - Congratulations to Paul, Rob and Lee who took 4th in the City Road Club 3up TTT. A good start to the season.

2nd March - Forum is now up and running. Just follow the link on the forum page and sign up.

27th Feb - The new season is almost upon us and Richardsons/Cube RT will show their colours for the first time on the 7th March in the City Road Club 3up TTT. Representing the team will be Paul Noton, Rob Busby and Lee Watson. The following week the team will field two squads in the Hull Thursday 2up TT. First pair - Rob Busby & Craig Medcalf. Second pair - Mark Ollerenshaw & Paul Noton.
